Home -- Whitetail Hunting

Coming home with a Trophy Whitetail Deer and venison steaks requires skillful planning and a great place to hunt.

7 Canyons Ranch can help you on both counts. Our approach is all about customer service and your success. Our trophy bucks are carefully managed to produce a rack you will be proud to hang on your wall.

With generations of hunting under our belts, we know the ins and outs of a Texas whitetail hunt, and we also know that not everyone has the time to prepare. We take care of it all.

Fly in to San Antonio and we are an hour away. If you need transportation from the airport, let us know and we will coordinate that too.

Bring your rifles, and we will help you sight them in on our range. Expert marksman will help you and your clients/family with shooting suggestions if needed.

Preparing in advance for your Texas whitetail hunt, here are some things to consider.

Comfortable clothing and some moderate cold weather gear. We are blessed with beautiful fall and winter weather, but it can drop below freezing. Not Minnesota freezing, but cold enough to need a good jacket and gloves.

Comfortable shoes. If you spend all your time in deck shoes doing yard work and projects, bring them. If you plan on hiking, bring your most comfortable hiking boots. We use ATV's to get around the ranch, so you won't be hiking for miles in the woods unless you want to.

Even though your significant other thinks that fabric softener smells great, it really does smell, and if you can smell it, well, your trophy buck will REALLY notice it. Ditto on that shampoo, aftershave and deodorant. Same thing on fuel and gun cleaners. Attention to odor goes a long way.

If you bring a rucksack for personal items, a drawstring is much quieter than a zipper. That trophy buck has great ears (they stand up and collect sound) and it's a toss up as to whether it can hear better than it can smell. Usually, as soon as you unzip your pack, the buck you hadn't seen will run back into the woods. All you see is the whitetail part.

Cameras are great, and you will see all sorts of interesting game animals. Most digital cameras have little noise makers to keep you informed. That little bleep is ... you guessed it ... a siren for wild game. Your camera should have an option buried ten menus down for turning off those sounds.

A successful hunt also includes skilled preparation of your trophy whitetail for the taxidermist, and quality processing. We take care of all of it, and partner with a local taxidermist/game processor who does great work. If you are here for some outdoor fun and don't take a trophy whitetail, we will still prepare your hide for the tanner and package your meat for you. Tanned deer hide is a wonderful thing. Grilled venison is too.

If you want to learn more about how to dress out and process your deer, we will help you step by step. Just as in guided fishing, guided hunts offer a great opportunity to learn advanced and proven techniques. If you are here with your kids, it's a great place to learn.

In the evening, your guns will be tucked away in our gun safe and you will enjoy sharing stories around the campfire at the lodge till the wee hours.

Your personal guide will help you with all these details and thousand more, so relax, make your reservation, and come see us.
